Monthly Medjugorje Message

February 25, 2009:

"Dear children! In this time of renunciation, prayer and penance, I call you anew: go and confess your sins so that grace may open your hearts, and permit it to change you. Convert little children, open yourselves to God and to His plan for each of you. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

  1. Fr. Tom,
What does it mean when Our Lady says "In this time of renunciation ..."? What should renunciation mean to me?

  2. Chris,

I don't presume to interpret her message, but my assumption is that it is simply a reference to our season of Lent as we engage in a time of renunciation and penance.

  3. Hi Fr. Tom,
Thank you for your response. I forgot to check back for your reply until just now. I see the parallel with her use of the word "renunciation" and Lent. To be clear, I do not fully understand the meaning of the word "renunciation" in terms of being a Catholic. Could you give me some simple examples of what it means to practice renunciation? The definitions I found online were quite academic and difficult to understand.

    Best regards,
    Chris
